FairWind
is owned and operated by Kim Borgstrom and Greta Simmonds.
Kim and Greta
have a wide variety of sailing experience, both on the New Zealand
coast and abroad. Between us we have over 100,000 sea miles under
our belts. The two of us have circumnavigated the globe and Kims
experience goes back to being second mate under Captain Bligh on
the Bounty! We both hold New Zealand commercial skippers licences.
FairWind was
started after global charter company The Moorings, for whom Kim
had managed the Bay of Islands base for three years, withdrew from
New Zealand in the tourism downturn following September 11. We perceived
an opening for a smaller bareboat company that still offered vessels
of a high standard. Kims involvement in the charter industry
dates back to the early 80s.
Greta was an
owner of an 85-foot traditional schooner for 10 years; occupied
in its construction and commercial operation. She is an experienced
journalist, and is currently studying part time to be a school teacher
whilst still finding time to be Mum to our children Rory (11) and
Astrid (9).
Both of us have
sailed the world yet we agree that the Northland Coast, with its
beauty of scenery and variety of sailing, easily matches anywhere
we have visited. We appreciate being able to call the Bay of Islands
our home. We hope you will accept our invitation to charter with
FairWind, and share this alluring cruising ground with us.
Fair winds,
Kim and Greta
P.S. That Bounty voyage was in 1989, not 1789, and was a re-enactment
of the original mutiny voyage, with the four-times-great
grandson of the first Bligh in command.
